The Metamorphosis Section 1

Today we returned to our unit on Magical Realism and began reading the first part of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.

Mrs. Scales explained that we are learning to do our annotations on our iPads rather than on paper. Everyone found The Metamorphosis part one in the resources for Eng. 9 in Canvas. Students then downloaded the text to Notability so that they could have the text on their iPads and annotate on the digital text.

We read paragraphs 1-22 in our small groups. Students were instructed to highlight all of the words that they did not know as the first part of their annotation of the text.  The Metamorphosis Section I Post-Reading Questions had also been passed out. Students were encouraged to read the first five question and annotate support in the text for those questions. As homework all five questions must be fully explained with supporting evidence from the text, in the student’s reading logs.

The final 10 minutes of class was used to review questions 1 – 5. The following question was assigned as homework for today:

About the Author

My life has taken many paths. I grew up in Farmland, Indiana and graduated from Monroe Central High School in 1979. Yes I know that seems like a long time ago to most of you. After I graduated from High School, I went into the U. S. Navy. Not a lot of women enlisted in the Navy back then. Boot camp was still segregated (that means there were only women in my boot camp) and yes, boot camp is as bad as they say it is. I survived though and began seeing a little more of the world than just our lovely corn and soy bean fields of Indiana. I was an advanced avionics technician and worked on F14 Tomcat jets in the Navy. Back then women couldn't go on ships but I was stationed in Bermuda for a little over a year. Bermuda is beautiful and the people are warm and friendly. I married my husband while in the Navy and we eventually moved to Minnesota.
